Ruby Rose (Red Rose or simply Red) is the main titular protagonist of the anime-styled cartoon web series RWBY.
She made her first video game appearance in RWBY Grimm Eclipse and made her first fighting game appearance in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle as a playable character and as one of the four main characters.
Bio
A Huntress in training, she was raised on heroic stories told to her by her late mother Summer Rose and dreamed of being a great Huntress just like her to help others in need. Trained to wield her custom made weapon Crescent Rose thanks to her uncle Qrow Branwen, her skills with the weapon allowed her to foil a robbery, which impressed Professor Ozpin; she was subsequently allowed to transfer early into his school, the prestigious Beacon Academy, to continue her training. To help hone her potential, Ozpin placed Ruby in a team alongside her older half-sister Yang Xiao Long, heiress Weiss Schnee and the Faunus Blake Belladonna, forming Team RWBY.
Trivia
- She shares a same Japanese voice actress as Orie Ballardiae and Mai Natsume.
- In the special GameStop demo for BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Ruby is the only character with an English Dub voice, while everyone else only has a Japanese voice, including Weiss.
- Ruby's Astral Heat, Red Reaper, is a reference to how she killed the Nevermore in Volume 1.
- One of Ruby's Distortion Drives, Petal Burst, references how she won the food fight against Team JNPR in Volume 2. The other references a combo she used against the Beowolves in the Red Trailer.
- Ruby's uncle, Qrow Branwen, is mentioned in her special victory screen dialogue with Gordeau the Harvester.
- Ruby has color palettes of the following characters: Sol Badguy (Guilty Gear), Es Mitsurugi (Code: Embryo version), Yu Narukami, Mika Returna, her friend Jaune Arc (RWBY), and her mother Summer Rose (RWBY).
- Ruby's character theme in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Ruby Mix, features both This Will Be The Day (the main theme of Volume 1 as well as the RWBY characters Astral Skill theme) and Red Like Roses (one of Ruby's character themes, while the part II of the theme as all RWBY cast’s team battle theme).
- Ruby's title, Red Like Roses, refers to her main color scheme and her rose motiff. It's also the name of her theme song from the show.
